Is GiltboxPH Subscription Box Worth Spending On?

I am a practical spender – a converted one. And if you’ve read my blog about my bitter credit card horror, you will surely understand why. I am a firm believer that we should get our money’s worth on regular priced items and even more on SALE items.
One day, I chanced upon a SALE on Facebook. It was for a subscription box which from Php500.00 is now being offered at Php1,000.00 for a 3-month subscription. That makes it Php333.00 per box. The visuals that accompanied the post shows 4-5 deluxe samples so you can try these items before purchasing the actual-sized ones. Thinking that I’d be saving a lot and I’d have more items to review on my blog, I immediately took the “limited time only” offer.
I placed my order last August 21, 2018. I was hoping to get the September box a couple of weeks after. Almost a month after, I still haven’t received my Giltbox. I followed up via Instagram and Email and received a reply last September 20 that I should be able to receive my September box soon.
On September 24, I was surprised to receive this message fron Ninja Van that they will deliver my Giltbox. That was quick, Giltbox!
A couple of hours after, the courier delivered my Giltbox and with much excitement, I opened it. But all my excitement vanished when I saw a purple box. I knew there was something off because this was their July 2018 box. And with the card that says the promo is only “until July 15”, my hunch has been confirmed.
What’s inside my Giltbox?
Giving them a benefit of the doubt, I allowed myself to discover what’s inside. I got four items namely:
1. Aura Mugler Eau de Parfum Tester – 1.2ml
2. Angel Skin Skin Lightening Bar
3. Caronia Nail Polish
4. Dentiste Toothpaste Travel Size 10g
So, do you think these items are worth the Php333.00 I paid for this month?
Is Giltbox worth my money?
I gave them the benefit of the doubt again since I am not familiar with the soap and the perfume. For reference, I checked BeautyMNL for the prices:
Using these references, the total price of my box is Php180.00 excluding the sample perfume.
I felt that I should let Giltbox know about this concern so I emailed them:
And I sent the rest of the photos here. Unfortunately, I did not receive a reply nor an explanation from their end.
If you would check Instagram posts, it is not surprising that it is not only me who feels that they don’t get their money’s worth. However, there are also bloggers and vloggers who get beautifully crafted boxes and post about how great Giltbox is on their accounts.
Paying Php333.00 and getting Php180.00 worth of products in return is an unfair business practice. If we are to consult the Department of Trade and Industry, this might even be considered profiteering.
I am disappointed and I feel bad for choosing to spend money on a surprise box because it was well-promoted and the social media visuals are appealing. For someone who wants to make the most out of their hard-earned money, this is deceitful.
I am hoping Giltbox and other subscription boxes will correct these practices and find a way to ensure that what they give the consumers is fair for what they’ve paid for.

For me a subsciption box is a box full of goodies and is worth of what you paid for or more. That is why some people are getting hook on getting subscription boxes , admit it, we love surprises in a box. But not with your experience, as am reading it i can feel your excitement. Who wouldnt be? It was a good deal from the start. Pero andaming lapses. From the box itself and its contents. ( sigh) I feel so sorry for your experience. First time ko lang makabasa ng ganito since sa lahat ng na follow ko, they are too happy unboxing their boxes kasi. Glad you share this para aware ang iba. I never had my subscription boxes pa naman but i love the concept this one. Upon seeing and without calculations naisip ko na parang kulang ata? Di umabot? Di manlang sumobra for 333pesos.? So ayun nga, di nga talaga. I find it weird na nag email sila ng Sept box mo yet youve got the old one. Nakakdismaya din kahit kanino mangyari yan. Good sila sa delivery sana but they failed providing the best srvice and good products . Supposedly, marami pa dapat yan eh. Yang nakuha mo literal na samples talaga. I know these subscription boxes are samples naman to try before purchasing pero ang piranggot lang ng items mo. I hope the case will be escalated and further actions on this matter will be given to a costumer like you and others too who were dismayed. Sana may naging action sila about dito.. Kahit sinong makatangap ng ganyang box ang expected mo ay worth it ang binyaran mo tapos hindi makatarunagn ang laman.. Hayyss kakalungkot.. Parang binayadan mo nadin ang shipping fee..
Big or small amount of money, is hard earned money and when we buy something we are definitely expecting that its worth it. I love to watch unboxing of subscription boxes, nakaka excite and nakaka engganyo but after seeing what is inside your Giltbox, I am really so disppointed. I felt what you feel upon opening your box. Giltbox I think should review the duties and responsibilities of their staff, kasi dapat maingat sila specially na kailangan nila ng maraming clients to avail their subscription boxes. Sa schedule of deliveries plang, sa promo period, they should be very very careful. They should be the one din communicating with their clients if there are delays or changes not the other way around. kasi they will lose possible clients if they continue to do what they did. Hay, very disappointing po talaga andapapadawang isip.. if there will be another subscription na magaganap. Hay 🙁
Hi Aiza, thanks for your comment. I have given them a chance to rectify this matter however, just like other subscribers, it turned out to be just a lip service. I am not sure how business ethics like this can make a company thrive and survive.
